Information: Jonny Geber completed his Master of Arts in Archaeoosteology (both human and faunal remains) in 2003 at Gotland University, Sweden. His MA-thesis was based on his analysis of a number of cremation burials from a Pre-Roman (500 BC – AD 0) flat cemetery from County Östergötland in Sweden, where he discussed osteological methodologies of cremated remains from a continental perspective as well as taphonomy of cremation burials.

Jonny Geber completed his Master of Arts in Archaeology in 2000 at Mid-Sweden University in Östersund, Sweden. During these archaeology studies, he was also awarded a scholarship during which he studied prehistoric archaeology (Neolithic-Pre Roman Iron Age) during one semester in 2000 at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. His MA thesis was about cognitive archaeology regarding the cosmological world of the South Scandinavian Bronze Age with a focus on the inter-contextual ship symbolism.

Jonny has been working in commercial archaeology since 1999 and full time as an osteologist since 2003 in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, England and Ireland.

To date (May 2009), Jonny Geber has analysed about 2000 skeletons and 400 cremation burials as well as a large number of animal bone assemblages dating from the Neolithic to the Post-medieval period and written more than 50 osteological reports. He has also given several public and academic lectures (Irish Heritage Week, Oxford University).

Jonny is currently undertaking part-time PhD research at Queen’s University Belfast, under the supervision of Dr Eileen Murphy, focusing on an osteoarchaeological and biocultural study of famine burials from Kilkenny workhouse which were excavated by Brenda O’Meara of Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd in 2006.
